Facial Sweating

Hyperhidrosis can manifest itself in many forms, and excessive facial sweating is on of them. When this condition occurs it extends to more than just the face, also affecting the scalp and even the neck. When the scalp is affected by excessive sweating, the hair may look oily and dirty. Even though this condition is known as facial sweating, the negative effects are serious as far as the hair is concerned. Blow drying the hair may prove to be a difficult task.

The social problems this condition raises are similar to the ones of hand and foot excessive sweating. Facial hyperhidrosis appears in unexpected moments and doesn’t need to be triggered by factors like stress or emotional uncertainty or pressure.

The condition may manifest itself in the most embarrassing situations, while talking to people, or having a business lunch. With female patients this poses an even bigger obstacle, as they have a hard time putting on make up and maintaining it in good shape. Excessive sweating will dilate the skin pores and the result is that the makeup will run over their face, creating an unpleasant situation. Facial blushing is another condition that may appear in combination with the excessive facial sweating.

Medications are used successfully to cure facial hyperhidrosis. Robinul and Sympathectomy are the most successful in dealing with this condition, either separate or in combination with facial blushing.

I have always had a problem with hyperhidrosis. Mainly armpits and face. I have worked out everyday for 20 yrs. I check out physically fine at my medical exams. What bothers me about this condition is whenever I am in social situations and it is either warm in temperatures (in or outdoor) or if I start dancing. My head starts to sweat profusely.

The facial sweating gets in my eyes, wets my hair down and causes my makeup to run. I love to dance and I have opportunities to perform dance at a local talent agency. I just do not want to sweat when I increase my activity because it is a nuisance and embarrassing.

Could you please send some remedies or something helpful for this problem.

I have never got such an embarrassing situation like sweating uncontrollably only in the face at my interview, i know to them it was like this guy must be nervous but i was not though later on the sweating its self made me. the most annoying thing is trying to make what you know is abnormal to look normal because i knew this was coming since I’ve had the condition for the past 8 yrs. I don’t know how you can help me but am so tied of this!

I’m glad to know this facial sweating has a name. I am unable to wear make-up or have my hair permed. Right after I take a shower, I become so hot it’s impossible to dress since my clothes stick to me. My hair looks like I’ve had water poured on my head, and sweat absolutely runs down my face.

My husband’s aunt ask why I didn’t try wiping my face when I sweat so profusely. What’s the point, if I’m going to be covered in sweat before I can get my face wiped completely.

Several people have commented on the amount I sweat. Each year seems to be getting worse. I have become so sensitive to any heat, I absolutely freeze my husband and cat during the winters by keeping the central heat turned so low.

Since I now know what to call this condition, I can now discuss with my doctor how to treat it. Hurray!!!

I have been dealing with hyperhidrosis since about high school. It was was not so bad then, however it has become increasingly worse.

When I went to see my doctor, they just thought it was anxiety and gave me prescriptions for depression/anxiety. This worked at first and then the facial sweating just came back. The one drug that I have tried that works great is Xanax, however my doctor did not want to prescribe it for long-term use, and here I am back to the same old sweating every day! I only recently found out that it is hyperhidrosis that I have and not anxiety.

When I went in for a job interview last month, I actually had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom and rinse my face because I was sweating so much. HOW EMBARRASSING!!!

I’m going to try sage tea along with zinc supplements, as I have heard these may help.

Okay, I’m 14 and I’m in high school. I live in Arizona and I have P.E., it starting to get hot and I sweat like crazy! It is so embarrassing, but I can’t do anything about it besides use my hair to hide it. But you can tell because my face is flushed and it runs down the sides. I only sweat when it gets hot or kind of hot! I hate it!

I don’t know what to do, I don’t have the money to buy any product or try anything. I’m the only person in my class that sweats like I just ran a marathon in the heat! I can’t even wear any make-up besides lip gloss, it also causes my face to be oily and it causes acne. I NEED HELP! I can’t ask my doctor about it till I try some things first.

Anyone know any cheap ways to help or prevent this, please??!!

i, too, have hyperhidrosis. i am 18 and i think it started around the time i was 11 or 12. i sweat everywhere, from my head, to my face, to my armpits, hands, back, and legs. it’s really bad.

I’ve tried tons of antiperspirants and even the “clinical strength” ones. they all failed. i recently read about certain dri, which is a prescription strength antiperspirant without the necessity of a doctors prescription. for the past 2 nights, i have applied it to all the areas i have been sweating, including some to my face, and so far, it has helped GREATLY.

I am still trialing it because maybe the weather just hasn’t been hot or humid enough these past 2 days. i really hope it continues to work for me, because today, i did not sweat on my back or in my armpits at all. it felt great! my biggest problem is the facial sweating. so far, it’s under control, but i just hope that it stays that way.

    I hope this helps.

I am 32 years old. Now that I am reading up on hyperhidrosis, it makes sense to me. I have never known why my face breaks out in sweats at the WORST possible moments. I can run into someone I know and talk to them and within minutes, my forehead is beading up and the sweat is running down my face. Or I can be in a meeting at work (all eyes focused on me) and I have to get up and excuse myself so I can go the bathroom and wipe my face (which does nothing to help anyway).

It is VERY noticeable and embarrassing and I can’t take much more of this!! I don’t think that I have always had this problem, I think it started in my late teenage years.

Hi, I’ve suffered with excessive sweating of the face and scalp since my twenties, I’m now 43. Ok it has a name which in a small way does help as i no I’m not a total freak. The trouble is no one else dose. People stare , they make their own presumptions ie: your nervous, guilty for something or a drug addict etc…. But I’m so at the end of coping with this problem.

It controls everything that i do in my life, id love to be out there as I’ve so much to give, but I’ve had so many embarrassing situations id rather just stay in my house. Its affected me being involved in my kids lives . I stopped going to the baby center to have my kids weighed as you all sat on chairs facing each other new baby on your knee chatting away.

I would be that panicked as i sat there soaking wet with all the mothers sat looking thinking what the heck is up with her and at the time i didn’t no it was hyperhidrosis. I don’t feel like i have a quality of life and need some help !!!

Hello, I’m 52 years old and I sweat buckets for no reason. The slightest movement sends a river of sweat pouring down from my head and face. Yesterday I was on an air conditioned subway car. It was like a refrigerator and I was sweating like a melting stick of butter.

People look at me like I’m crazy. The sweat runs down my back and wets my underwear and everything else. If I sit down, I leave a puddle on the seat and the people are then really grossed out. When I go anywhere, I have to take a whole roll of paper towels with me.

No one can tell me why this happens. Not even my doctor.

    Please, please help me.

I am doing research finding out if I am the only one with this ugly problem. I am a 54 year old a woman full of life and from my 20′s I have had a problem sweating. I can just be sitting at my computer, watching TV, just listening to mellow music, talking with someone, it’s WINTER and I can feel the heat coming from my head, to the touch I can feel the water in my head soon be all over my face and running down my neck, front and back.

This is such handicap for me being that I am such an outgoing person, I cut all of my hair off because it won’t stay fixed, but more time than not I find myself saying no, I not feeling well or I’m tired, because I hate that my friends always have something mean to say, do they think I like looking like I’m walking around with a personal shower or people look at me and saying are you alright, can I get you something, or just turning up their lips and walking away like I have something really bad…….and it hurts so bad….. but I just keep pressing my way and wiping the sweat away as if nothing going onor nothing has been said.

I have tried all kinds of medications from doctors and over the counter you name it and nothing has helped……If anyone has a cure for this problem, I am listening…..slowly dieing inside.

Hmmm… I don’t know how old of a thread this is, but there are some really sad stories here. I suffer from hyperhidrosis also (mainly sweating from the forehead… huuuge problem in social situations). I decided to try using certain dri on my forehead (going against what the label says) after about a week I stopped sweating from my forehead and after using the product for about a year my pores seemed to close off on my forehead for good.

I don’t use certain dri on my forehead anymore and I don’t sweat from my forehead hardly at all (amazing). I worried for safety reasons about putting certain dri on my forehead so I asked my doctor and he said it was harmless though some people feel a stinging feeling from the product (it was only minor for me).

I hope this helps… it has been quite life changing for me.

  20. admin said:

    Hi Scooter,

The threads are active and recent – I’ll get dates up on these.

As for using Certain Dri – I’m glad it worked for you, but I’ll take this opportunity to reiterate that deviating from the instructions is not suggested. I’m not sure if the product does something to the skin on your forehead or if they are worried about it getting in your eyes, etc. but I highly recommend that anyone considering repeating Scooter’s application consult a doctor first.

    Thanks for sharing!

I have excessive sweating of my face and the back of my head. When I wake up in the morning and use the bathroom to put makeup on, I can barely get through without my face dripping in sweat.

At work, at home, I feel hot when everyone else is actually cold and I never, ever have to wear a sweater in the winter. I need a fan at my face all day at work, and when I’m home I need one on me all day and night. I have the air conditioner on when no one else (I live in a condo), does.

I don’t sweat under the armpits at all and don’t really feel hot on any other part of my body, only my face and back of my neck. After blow drying my hair in the morning, the back of my head is almost soaked from sweat. Being hot all the time, makes me so irritated and at times causes me to feel angry.

Funny thing is, years ago I was cold all the time and all of a sudden in 1991 ( I remember the year), I started to notice I felt hot all the time. My doctor told me I have hyperhydrosis, but doesn’t have too much to say about solving the problem.

I hate having this problem and want to know if there’s anything to use on the face, instead of surgery being my only operation. That scares me because 50% if those who elect surgery end up having new sweating problems in other areas, or an increase in their current problem. If anyone shares this problem and has received help or has any suggestions, I would be glad to hear from them.

    Thank you,

    Jeannie

Has anyone tried acupuncture for the facial sweating? I also read about botox for it but when I checked into it the cost was $3000 a treatment and was deemed only temporary. Acupuncture might be cheaper and less extreme. Lately even when I’m not really exerting myself, just walking normally in the mall shopping I can feel the sweat glands in my face turn on like a tap! It really limits ones lifestyle. I’ve been forcing myself to go to yoga even though I’m the only one with a totally soaked face and puddles on my mattress.

It can be 20 degrees outside and I can be doing nothing and start sweating.

I have had all kinds of lab work and several doctors have told me that it is just me and that nothing is wrong with me. I was told that it is adrenaline was the cause by one doctor who said stress triggers it.

So who is going to contact me and tell me what I can do beside hypnosis?

I share your pain, frustrations, embarrassment, etc. My facial sweating started in my late 20s. I tend to have these bouts when I feel I am being EVALUATED, CRITIQUED, and/or SCRUTINIZED. Job interviews, public speaking, and face-to-face conversations can lead to profuse sweating of my forehead, cheeks, and back of the neck. I’ve had more than my share of embarrassing experiences – most recently when I had my hair cut by a new stylist.

I’ve also lost friendships because of my frequent disappearances/absences during social situations when a sweating attacked occurred. Not knowing what I was experiencing, my acquaintances came to interpret my disappearing acts as me being a “flake.” One solution is to have wind from a fan directed at the back of my neck. While blown air on my face is also helpful, for some reason the back of the neck seems to be the key region for me. Obviously, it is impossible to arrange for a fan to be available in most situations. I’ve wondered if a thin-layered ice-pack placed beneath the shirt and against the base of the neck might do the trick. In the meantime, I continue to opt out of social and professional opportunities that do not allow me to control the environment with the pre-placement of a fan.

I love the sunshine as much as the next person but its a nightmare for me. My face sweats terribly, I have no problem with underarm or anywhere else just my face. I recently spent 2 weeks in Florida at the parks & it totally ruined my time there :( everyone else was dancing round with the parades etc whilst I was hiding in the shade constantly wiping my head & face and feeling totally boiling hot. It seems to seep from the tops of my cheek bones under my eyes and also above my top lip. I was prescribed propanthaline, but this did nothing except give me a dry mouth!! There must be something that works out there. It has nothing to do with embarrassment it’s just when I get hot in hot weather.

So I also obviously have the same problem, my hands, armpits, feet and mainly my face. I recently went to a dermatologist who said she was going to try botox to fix this problem as a free trial to me. Only i was crushed when she said they would only do axillary botox as the treatment is not approved for the face.

It has worked for my armpits and is covered by insurance. They say it lasts up to 6-8 months. Although it may not be covered by insurance and could be expensive I think it is worth getting it on my face because of the embarrassment I suffer and all the things I miss out on due to the problem.

the dermatologist did not have a single treatment recommendation for my facial hyperhidrosis, disappointing since I feel there has to be something. I am currently going to try the certaindri and see if that helps before taking more drastic measures

Like so many of you who have left comments, the sweat just pours down my face, SOoooooo humiliating and uncomfortable. I can really relate to the people who say that wiping your face doesn’t help because it’s started again before you can even finish wiping.

The best thing about this website – I’ve realized that I’m not the only one with this problem – though have the rest of you found this, you’re often the only one in the room with the condition at any given time?

I’ve been suffering from Hyperhidrosis since I’m 8, got worst after puberty.
I’m now 23 and still haven’t find anything to end this.

It seems that eating healthier and quit smoking have improved my condition but nothing spectacular.

    I tried something recently that could work for some of you ;

I bought a bandanna at wall mart (sports area, $5) filled with reactive products inside that, once put into iced water for 10 min, keeps the bandanna cold and wet. I sewed the 2 edges to an elastic of an old boxer short.

The cold zone stretches from neck /shoulder to armpits , while the elastic is in the upper back.

Feels really good and may be useful but, doesnt last more than 2h, can be uncomfortable (specially for men) , and can be seen (small bump on the neck under the shirt ) .

Didn’t work perfectly for me, but it’s worth trying it.

Courage to everybody, you’re not alone :)

    Hey,

I exercise 3 or 4 days a week and eat reasonable healthy. I have tried a lot of things even acupuncture, which initially seemed to work well. It can happen to me at any time but in particular when I am on public transport.

I recently moved to London and I have noticed that the problem has been getting worse since I started to use the underground to get to and from work. I am constantly wiping my forehead. I also seem to get it when in social situations such as restaurants and pubs, this can cause me to call it a night early due to feeling uncomfortable in front of others. I would appreciate any tips or advice on limiting or controlling this experience.

I hate having this condition so much. :( I love being on stage and performing but the hot lights make it impossible for me sometimes and it makes me so self-conscious. In high school, just walking from one class to another would have me sweating tons by the time I got there. Let’s not even talk about P.E. That was the worst time… even on the really cold mornings I’d be sweating within seconds of being in the class.

Sometimes I’ll be cutting someones hair in beauty school and sweat SO much. That’s the most terrible moment, too. Nobody wants to have their hair cut by a sweaty person! And it’s not because I’m nervous, it’s just having to be standing and doing something. It’s not even something hard and it shouldn’t be making me sweat the way it does. The worst part is when my scalp and face won’t stop sweating! I constantly keep having to wipe my upper lip, under my eyes, and my forehead or the sides of my head. My scalp gets SO hot sometimes that I have to use the blow dryer to cool off and everyone just stares at me. I wish I could stop this.

Wow, I am SO glad I finally found people who have the same issue that I have. I know this is going to come out wrong, but it’s actually comforting, in a way, to know that some of you have it worse than I do. Again, I’m not trying to revel in your misery (like the bully in the Simpsons cartoon “ha-ha”), as I certainly can identify with your issues, but I finally realize that I’m not some nervous nelly, fat, sweaty slob that I’ve pictured myself to be.

I’m a 37 yr old male. I’m about 30 to 40 lbs overweight, but carry it well (230 lbs at 6’1″). My sweating seems to be either totally on or totally off. I don’t sweat 24/7, but when I do sweat, it’s like Hoover Dam just opened up above my head (like that guy Ted Striker from the movie Airplane). I sweat more in my scalp and face than other parts of my body, but I do sweat everywhere. Thank God I don’t have body odor when I sweat, at least until I dry off and it starts to “ferment.” Aren’t the salt stains from the sweat on dark colored clothing just so attractive? Like some kind of sweat tie-dye t-shirt.

I work as a sound man and guitar tech for my buddy’s cover band, and from the second I lift the first piece of gear into the club until I load the last piece of gear back into the van at night, I profusely, uncontrollably sweat, even in 15 degree winter weather (everyone else is numb and I’m outside, with no jacket ,saying “this feels soooo good”). I go through three head bands (could go through more if I brought more) and up to 3 t-shirts in one 5 hour gig; laundry day on Sunday at my house is quite oderiferous. My nickname is “Snow Cone” among the band after a movie where someone said something like “you’re melting like a snow cone in Phoenix.” I don’t find it funny or amusing, but they do. They can’t, and never will, understand what we go through. I can’t meet any females at the gigs because the minute they see me, they all get this look of total disgust on their face and won’t come near me (and I don’t blame them). I have to be the only one going home from a gig in 60 degree weather with the air conditioner blasting on full. Winter is even more fun, because when I step outside in 20 degree weather, I start shivering from being soaking wet.

It’s not just at gigs either. When I clean my house, I’ll vacuum and sweat, do dishes and sweat, do a load of laundry and sweat, clean the bathroom and pour in sweat, put away groceries and sweat, dust and sweat, make lunches for the next day and sweat; how the heck can someone profusely sweat from putting two pieces of bread together into a sandwich?? If it’s anything above 75 degrees, I will sweat just sitting in a chair, much less while working. Showering in the summer sucks, because I have to shower, then go in my room, turn the AC on full blast and sit there for 15 minutes and wait to stop sweating. Who the hell has to set their alarm clock 15 minutes earlier to allow for sweat time??

I’m definitely reading every single word and page on this site. I need some kind of solution that doesn’t involve surgery.

I have major facial sweating! I’m a 17 year old girl. Come on, that’s got to be the worst age to have it. It is the most embarrassing thing ever, especially since I’m in musical theater.

This summer I took classes at a music camp. There was NO air conditioning in the building, so that just made me sweat even more. I was sooo embarrassed just sitting in choir class…JUST SITTING there i was sweating. I feel like such a freak. Musical theater class was even worse because we had to dance. I also had a solo, so when the spot light was on me on stage it made me really sweaty.

I’m not nervous to get up and sing in front of everyone, it’s the sweating that makes me nervous. My forehead sweats the most. Even my upper lip is really bad. My whole head also sweats so I can’t wear my hair down, even though it’s short. I would have to go to the bathroom in between every class and not blot..WIPE the sweat off my face.

The inside of my elbows and knees also sweat a lot. I am just fed up with this. My mom doesn’t believe me and thinks it’s just from being overweight or being nervous.

    PLEASE HELP!!!

OMG…I was amazed to find this site. I thought It was only me. I sweat bullets constantly whenever I am doing anything. It is so uncomfortable to always be sweating on my face. I wear glasses and it irritates the sides of my nose where my glasses sit and the skin breaks open there. Besides it getting in my eyes all the time. I am gonna have to try the certain dri and see if that helps. I tried the headband thing while I was working but it irritates me and didn’t help that much.

Have tried many supposed cures like sage tea, and some crazy herbal tea promoted by a guy on the net (which tasted like the contents of a vacuum cleaner bag and probably was). I’ve tried all kinds of sprays which are designed for armpits and feet purely because none of the remedies deal exclusively with the face.

I hate going to clubs because i get so hot, on occasions when I meet girls I feel really self conscious and when I’ve had girls touch my face/hair its embarrassing as i know it is soaking wet.

I avoid going on holiday with friends as i never know what situations I’ll be in or how hot it will be.

Even dinners in restaurants can be awful because spicy food or candle light can cause sweat to drip down my face.

Public transport is a nightmare (especially the underground) and I also feel this might affect my career as i never take opportunities that will force me be in front of large groups or Directors.
Will try using certain-dry as I plan to go to South East Asia this November and know I will spend most of my time in a personal puddle.

I’m almost 18, I suffer really bad from facial hyperhidrosis. I live in the UK and I’m always pouring with sweat in the summer when I walk around and recently even when I’m sitting when it’s hot. I asked my doctor and all he did was prescribe a roll on deodorant (20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate in cutaneous solution) That works great for my arm pits, but he had nothing for my face. :( I’m considering asking at my local acupuncture clinic about what they could do.

I’ve had this problem since I was 8 (i am now 17) and I never thought that anything could be done about it until I started reading internet topics about it.

I read somewhere that there is something which can help prevent facial hyperhidrosis but I can’t remember the name of it :(

The solution I use is simple but very uncomfortable, I never use it for the latter reason.

I tried this product called ODABAN, an English product and it work PERFECTLY until… I say it is uncomfortable because you have to apply it before you go to bed and your face needs to be dry, you can’t rub it off with your pillow. Odaban antiperspirant stings a lot! So going to sleep will be somewhat, painful!

I used it a lot at first and it worked perfectly. I haven’t used it much lately to avoid that pain so now I just deal with it, or better said, I don’t deal with it. I avoid social interaction and Ive become an outcast after doing so too often, its horrible.

    Best of luck to everyone.

I’ve been suffering from facial sweating for a few years now. I didn’t even have to do anything physical or be nervous for it to start running down my face and neck. It got so bad to the point where I didn’t have a social life because I knew that people would notice the sweat.

A week ago I bought Certain Dri and applied it to my face. I don’t have any bad side effects and it works GREAT!!! I know the directions say to ONLY apply it to your underarms, but I think it works just as well for facial sweating too. I just apply it before I go to bed, and I can be sweat free for at least a few days.

WARNING: You should not deviate from the instructions and consult your doctor BEFORE taking any action like that mentioned above. This is one visitor’s experience and not recommended.

Hi, I am 24 years old and it seems my excessive sweating has gone worse within the last few years. It was bad in college, because when I drink, it causes me to be red and I start to sweat uncontrollably. I sweat even more when I am talking to someone because I get so uncomfortable and self-conscious.

I have tried a couple products that reduce shine, but they were pretty much ineffective. I swear I can go into a Yoga room and I sweat just standing there. The worst problem is that I am 24 and I should totally be over getting acne, but my excessive sweating exacerbates the acne. I want to try acupuncture and I was wondering if anyone else has tried it and obtained good results. If not, is there any product out there that you swear by????

    Thanks!

Hyperhydrosis is ruining my life. When I get up in the morning and take a shower, I only take a cold shower so I can cool off. Doesn’t help. I don’t even blow dry my hair because the bottom is soaked in SWEAT.

I only wear dark blue or black shirts or white shirts with patterns so no one can see how soaked my back is. If I’m unlucky enough to get up late I am already off to a bad start, as I begin sweating shortly after I get up and/or shower. Then I have to walk to class. The SECOND I sit in my seat after walking to class (Which takes 5 minutes) I am DRIPPING IN SWEAT. My back is SOAKED. My forehead and neck are soaked and I cant wear my long blond hair down.

My face gets red like a tomato. I don’t even OWN foundation because its worthless. Don’t get me started on my armpit sweat. I haven’t worn a cute shirt kind of tight on the arms in YEARS. I HATE IT, I HATE IT! :( I’m going to have to learn to live with it I guess.

Certain Dri doesn’t help unfortunately. yea everyone is always like ARE YOU OKAY ARE YOU SICK…. SO EMBARRASSING….. fml good luck all YOU AREN’T ALONE EVEN THOUGH IT FEELS LIKE IT, TRUST ME I KNOW

    Hey Everybody,

I haven’t checked that site for months and have the feeling that people are just sharing their problems and all the embarrassing situations we ALL know about. Why don’t we start sharing SOLUTIONS !

I bought on internet wet pads of Topical Glycopyrrolate, (authorized only in Canada :S ) that didn’t work well and cost me a lot..

I recently went to see an Homeopath MD and after taking my Chinese pulse and asking hundreds of questions (habits, food, parents, diseases,..) it appeared that my Hyperhidrosis problem may come from a Shock during childhood.

There are many solutions in homeopathy for Hyperhidrosis to solve BOTH the problems (excessive sweating) and the causes (here, the shock).

I’ll let you know the results.

    Good luck to y’all

    PLEASE READ THIS!!

My name is David and I am 40. I live in the UK and I have suffered from facial hyperhydrosis since the age of about 13.

Things I avoid in my life because of this:
    Dancing (which I love)
Holidays in hot countries (or in the UK in the summer)
Going ANYWHERE on a hot summers day.
    Standing at the bar.
    Crowds.
    Tubetrains.
    Confrontation.
Promotion at work. (Involving interviews or public speaking)
    Meeting new people. (wherever possible)
    Shopping.
Walking any longer than about 10 minutes in daylight.
    Parties. (Which I love).
I could never learn to drive because of this either.

    Things I DREAD!
Rushing around to get ready going anywhere.
Sitting on the bus if the back seat isn’t free.
    Meetings at work.
Walking into a warm shop if its cold outside.
    Getting embarrassed.

Basically it has made me feel high levels of anxiety ALL the time in social situations.

I recently inquired about this with my doctor. I had been asking for 15 years with other Doctors and had no joy.

I was sent for a private consultation to see a Professor / Surgeon and it was the BEST thing I ever did. I was hoping to have ETS Surgery but he refused to perform it on me.

At first I was felt devastated, until he went into GREAT detail about the high risk of ‘Compensatory Sweating’ and urged me to look at these websites. I feel spared from a life of misery. OK it controls my life to quite a high degree, but if I ended up with the Compensatory Sweating it would RUIN my life. I know I would never leave the house.

My Hyperhydrosis is thankfully not constant. When it happens it is usually for 5-10 minutes at a time.

I have been prescribed ‘PROPANTHELINE’ – a low dosage to start with. I have to take 3 a day for a week and then increase my dosage over the period of 4 weeks until I see him again. If this does not help – he is going to try me with a ‘face gel’ to wear at night.

He has put me foward for a course of ‘ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy’. An intense therapy course that trains your mind into coping and dealing with the problem and can actually reduce and lessen the effects.

I have also been advised to avoid CAFFEINE as this affects the Sympathetic System adversely. He told me I would never be free of this problem – but it could be controlled to a certain degree and improved.

I can live with that! I CANNOT risk the possibility of Compensatory Sweating.

I URGE ‘ANYONE’ CONSIDERING THIS SURGERY – look up SYMPATHECTOMY DISASTERS & PROBLEMS WITH ETS SURGERY. Read ALL the comments from those who have had this operation. Look up ETC SURGERY on YOUTUBE – and see videos of people with Compensatory Sweating.

Try EVERYTHING else first. Hypnosis/Acupuncture/Therapy/Medication/Gels/Deodorants/Herbal/Diet/ EVERYTHING before you even entertain the idea of putting yourself at the terrible risk of surgery.

Each one of us are different – although we all have the same crippling problem. What may not work for one – could be the saving grace for another person.
MY recommendations may not work – I really hope and pray they do – but if they don’t, I will just have to settle my mind that things COULD be so much worse.

My love and support goes out to each and every one of you. I truly hope we all find a solution, or at least something to improve our condition.

I would not wish this on my worst enemy – but I still find it a comfort to know I am not alone, after spending years feeling like a freak of nature.

You are all in my thoughts,
    Love David. x

I just don’t know what to do or think ,I live in pain every day, I am not going through menopause, I do not have hot flushes, thyroid function is normal ,I have a son who is 16 years old and he is close to perfect, so my stress level is minimal ,I would like to know why I( am suffering like this. Every medical test I have had done ,has come back normal. Please help and I don’t want to hear that I should stop eating salty foods ,because I don’t use a lot salt ,as a rule of thumb. Heart disease runs in family ,so I cook with no salt now.

It is so embarrassing, I am the only person, everywhere I go with sweat literally running right off my forehead and down my face. I don’t know what to do. My family doctor has no answers. Where do I turn to find out what is causing this?

I am 16 now and I have had the same problem since i was 12 . My family doctor said i had no problems whatsoever with my body and a i even got a blood test.

Right now, I’m seeing the Chinese doctor, where they give you herbal medicine, If i get any results, i will share with all of you! Apparently in some cases it has to do with hormones or something.

For girls who like bangs/ fringe like me, i suggest sometimes hair spray helps hold the bangs together so even if you sweat, it usually stays in place and doesn’t get as wet.

I know what you mean by embarrassing, ppl always look at me in a strange way.The worst thing is that I’m Asian, and usually Asians are like cold or something. My relatives think I’m soo strange.

I usually sweat in my morning classes, which i hate because my hair is always dripping wet.

If it gets too bad, i just go to the wash room and freshen up.

Also, avoid spicy foods because it makes it worse, haha
Good luck to all of you!

I have sooo much empathy with all of you – I am a video camera woman and suffer daily with sweat pouring from my forehead into the eyepiece of my camera – saltwater stinging my eyes.

Recently I had to document a visit of the Minister of Health at a local hospital – within 5 minutes I was flushed like a ripe tomato and sweating like a racehorse whilst in the company of cool suited dignitaries and doctors – I was mortified – wearing a soaking wet bandanna / scarf wrapped around my forehead was the only temporary solution…

I still dread every filming experience…my passion…but I try to keep cool head about it. Hyperhidrosis is psychologically and socially debilitating…

When I worked at the gym two years ago I was in the best shape of my life and had plenty of confidence. when I left, my confidence left as well and the sweats came on more and more as my confidence went down and stress level rose.

We all need to just try and someway beat this and build our lives back the way they were before being hit with this. my reason for writing tonight is that I’ve allowed this condition to control my life too long. just tonight; my brother was standing over me and I started to sweat. it upset me because its my brother, not some interviewer, associate, etc.

From now on I will try and breathe easier and stop getting tense every time I think of getting tense. that’s all it is for me, really is mental. my mind says to sweat and panic and that’s what I do regardless of what’s really going on. I’ve dropped enough sweat over this condition and I’m done.

We can do this and we can help one another!

I avoid social scenes at all cost. Ive been in one wedding and three interviews since. Surprisingly it didn’t effect me during those times. For the interviews I just sat in my car with the AC blowing for about an hour straight so I was cold going into the interview…

I have another wedding coming up in 2 months though, and I’m the bestman… I’m soo nervous to stand up there and give the speech. I know I’m gonna be soaking. I need to find help before then!

I am not sure if this post is still active but I suffer from moderate facial sweating like most on this post. I am going to ask my doctor next week about Robinul. I hope he is opened minded and informed about the medication.

One thing that has helped me greatly in meetings and on the metro is a hand held air conditioner. It cools the air around your face, or wherever you are pointing it, up to 30 degrees F. The thing is amazing! It is not large at all. You basically wet this sponge and insert it into the fan and let it rip. It doesn’t produce any mist, just cold air! It is not very loud at all. I would highly recommend you to look into it. I think I paid $40.

Ever since my early teens i have suffered excess sweating all over my body. Now that I’m 19, the sweating is normal in the armpits, but my head/face/neck area and back are the worst to deal with. The face especially, when in any sudden moment my face is flourished red and my face area perspires around my lip and chin and sideburn area and moves its way up my forehead.

The sweat starts just because the temperature is a little warm or the tiniest stress is involved by talking to a girl or giving a presentation. In sports and at the gym, i am just drenched in sweat. And then i sweat more in a social situation when you know people are just looking at your face just dripping with sweat.

Being a guy in my late teens early 20′s it makes it extremely to talk to ladies when your face is blushed in red. Now don’t get me wrong i have game to talk to ladies, but in any warm situation my game is completely busted and i have to divert away so they wont see my flourished face.

Getting a job and talking to any superiors such as a boss or the cops makes the sweating come right back. I cant go to dances or basketball games because just the heat of the room makes the sweat start, let alone dancing. Any slightly stressful situation causes my face to flourish! Even in the cold i can start sweating at anytime.

I cannot live with this condition and i have been to several doctors who cannot find out what is wrong. I am just jumping from doctor to doctor with referrals, but still having no luck. This is the worst social situation to overcome!

Please Help me I don’t know how to deal with this horrible condition.

I would advise you to NOT take prescription medications without first seeing a doctor. If you self prescribe and buy medications like Robinul online, you risk bad meds and / or serious side effects that your doctor could have warned about.

    Hi co-sufferers,

Until now I was thinking I was the only one the earth going through the nightmare of facial / body sweating. I am a male, in my late 40′s and think I have had this problem for the last 25 years.

I sweat heavily during conversations with higher-ups, strangers (men and women), during presentations, tight situations like when questioned on anything, and strangely sweat starts even while thinking about the above. I sweat a lot during workouts as well and in ac rooms.

I think the problem is due to my low self esteem which could be genetic but I do not think any of my siblings or parents have this issue. Facial sweating is hurting my career growth and caused a lot hair loss.

I wanted to see a psychologist but am afraid, do people think I am crazy? I used to be okay during school days but I think my self confidence is severely impaired due to unsuccessful higher education. Anyway, I have lived long enough with this problem and am sure I would take this to my grave.

It is sickening and sad to be in this situation!

My doctor wrote off to the nhs after they told me i have hyperdrosis and they told my doctor that my case ”isn’t good enough” for treatment (such as removing nerves etc…) as ‘everybody sweats’. It gets to a stage where i can go from outside to inside and it will be dripping down my face, i can be walking in the snow, in the middle of winter and i will be sweating and really hot!

It does feel like I’m alone as everyone just seems to pass the buck because no one gives me reasons for why this is happening or how it can be solved. Its so embarrassing and would do anything to remove the sweating from my face. I don’t get sweating from no where else apart from my chest (no underarms). I have tried drinking green tea for 7 weeks to try and detox but still no answers……

I sweat a lot after taking a shower-I need a box fan set on high to cool down.

One time, when I was work, I needed to go outside briefly, when the temperature was in the 20′s,a worker said to me-”are you nuts!you are going to get the flu!”, because i just had a t-shirt on.

One thing I noticed is, I never ever get the flu or even a cold-I think my high body temperature protects me from the bugs, I burn them little critters right up. I noticed though, most of my sweating is facial.

A lot of strangers that see how I sweat think there is something wrong with me. Everybody that knows me are used to seeing me sweat, and never say anything. When I was in my teens & 20′s, I used to get sick & get the flu over the
winter like everyone else. When I started overheating & sweating-around the later 30′, I never get sick.

I recently went for a job interview, I was glad it was brief, because if I would of have been in that office just a few minutes longer, I would have started sweating. When I was waiting in the hallway before the interview with other people waiting to get interviewed, I started to sweat, so I took off my coat-but I still sweated after taking off my coat-once I get heated up, it takes a while to cool down.

Another thing, when my glasses get wet from sweating-I keep a roll of paper towels in my car so I can wipe my face & glasses,so I can see to drive.

I gotta say, this is a great site, as I can relate to every post!

Have been sweating severely all over for 40 years. I am getting old enough that I am developing yeast infections in body creases because I sweat so much and get so hot. All my doctors say its an overactive sympathetic nervous system but over no idea how to control it. Walked into an air conditioned store yesterday and within 5 minutes I was beet red and my hair was dripping. Its the dripping hair I have a problem with because I can’t wear it long or wear nice sweaters. Doesn’t seem related to stress of any kind, just standing for prolonged periods or bending over a lot. Its not been helpful for cures on this site but very encouraging knowing that I am not alone.

Hope some of you can have the same results.

I had quadruple bypass in January of 2006 and had a baby a year 1/2 later. It started shortly after the birth of my daughter. Under the slightest conditions my face sweats and my hair gets soaking wet. I finally went to a dermotologist last week and he prescribed me Robinal 2mg and I have not had one drop of sweat since I started it a week ago. It does cause extreme cotton mouth but I can live with that if I can face the public again without being embarrassed because my head is sweating bullets. It is awesome.

This is such a relief to read!!! As it’s getting closer to summer (I live in NYC), I am dreading the coming weather…as most people around me are thrilled for sun and heat. I’m 25 and have had excessive sweating since I was 15. 2 years ago I finally tried botox for my armpits…I have to get it every 6 months, and it has helped my underarm sweating hugely! The problem is, I STILL sweat everywhere else…my face, feet, palms, even the backs of my legs. Dermatologist never know how to help (aside from the botox.)

I think a big problem, and I’ve noticed this from other people’s comments, is feeling like you’re the only one sweating wherever you’re going. This also causes me anxiety…which makes me sweat even more! It’s so incredibly frustrating and can feel crippling in social settings…especially as hot summer rolls around! I try to remind myself, I’m not the only one. And if I’m with other people and I start sweating noticeably, I’ve started actually saying something about it to people to avoid questions or embarrassment. It actually makes me feel a little calmer to get it out in the open via words (as odd as that may sound.)

I think I’ll ask about Robinol to my dermatologist…thanks for that advice!

Hey everyone, like many of you I’ve been sweating excessively for years. It’s basically ruined my life. My social life, no parties, no gigs, it also means practically no sex life, I can’t go to fitness centres because you can imagine what actual activity causes to my face/body, no in-line skating or bicycles, it ruined everything. Public transportation is a horrifying experience.

I lost 30 pounds (now I wouldn’t call myself fat) because I thought it would help – it did not at all. Still, all I have to do is walk for 5minutes and I’m wet. I have a shower and within 5 minutes I’m wet again. My hair is greasy, I can’t wear make up, my face is red and dripping with sweat. I work in retail and it is so embarrassing to talk to people when you look like that. You know it, people look at you…And now summer is getting closer – a thought itself makes me almost physically ill. I hate it and the worst thing is there doesn’t seem to be anything that could help me.

But (I know it sounds a bit wrong) I’m happy that I’m not alone in this and there are people like me – it helps a bit. Thanks everyone for sharing your problems x

I have cranial / facial hyperhidrosis as well. My face and head sweat like a pig. I found two products that work pretty well – I would say about 90% of my sweating is gone, and for me that is a miracle! Klima Deodorant’s Hyper-Dri aluminum-free antiperspirant and Klima regular antiperspirant. The Hyper-Dri seems to be less strong than their regular product, but it doesn’t dry out my skin, and still keeps teh sweat from coming out.

Botox works pretty well for me – but only for a few months. I use Hyper-Dri mainly now, with an occasional spray of Klima Antiperspirant when it’s really hot outside. This seems to do a marvelous job for me.

Hello, not to sound repetitive of other posters here BUT it is so good to know that I am not the only one in the world that sweats through there face as much as I do.

I am 40 now and overweight, but I have been sweating through my face since I was 21 or at least that is when I noticed it. I used to work in a bar that was Very busy and we did not have much time to take a break and cool off. It did not help that the owner of the bar did not want to crank up the AC in the summer. This way the customers would buy more beer.

The waitresses and bartenders suffered for it, we all had large pitchers of ice water that we drank from during our shift. I would drink at least two during any given shift. Winter time was a blessing. The bar was heated by a wood stove so it was much cooler.

I would get so embarrassed because here I am trying to work and I can’t stop sweating. Believe me it affected my tips. But I still made great money. I am not a nervous person and I like talking to people but when I feel my face getting all sweaty, I get embarrassed and this does not help, in fact it makes it worse.

This is the first time I have ever looked up my condition. I am on a diet under Doctors care and on diet pills that make the condition even worse. I have not talked to my doctor about it but I plan to when I go to see him in a week.

Here are a few things that I have come up with to help keep me from sweating when I go out in public or to a social function.

1.) If I need a shower and to wash my hair, I do it the night before. If I shower before going out. I will sweat and sweat and sweat through my face and it is almost impossible to put makeup on.

2.) While applying make up I wear light clothing and have a fan on me the whole time. Just applying make up can get me sweating. I go slow, take my time and if I start sweating, I stop and cool off by the fan and drink some ice water.

3.) No Coffee or hot liquids that day.

4.) Stay calm, I try to just focus on getting ready, not thinking about where i’m going.

5.) Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.

6.) Wear light woven cotton clothing. Polyester is a big NO NO for me. Also I prefer sandals or high heals because wearing socks and shoes makes me to hot unless there are two feet of snow on the ground. But with sandals I can kick them off and it helps me to cool down.

7.) After I get my make up on, I get dressed.. Slowly.. Then I sit down in front of the fan and drink a lot of ice water and just let my body get used to the clothing.

    8.) Always carry Ice water.

9.) Always carry a nice hanky to dab my face with.

10.) I like to carry a small fan with me. You know the ones like the Southern Bells used to carry. It is fun to collect them or make them yourself. Plus its fun and better than sitting there sweating.

11.) My strategy is to get as cold as possible before a social engagement or shopping.. So the Ac in my car is on full blast on the way there. But when I’m at the gym, let the sweat begin. It looks like I’m really working my butt off hee hee.

Well , I hope this helped someone. This is how I deal with my sweaty face. I live in the South and its hot and humid here. I think I would like to move to the North Pole sometimes. Maybe I am just genetically built for the cooler climates.??

God bless you all and your sweaty heads.

    Sincerely

    Tasia.

I am from India. I drink a lot of water and my thirst is on the higher side even in the dead of winter months. I am slim and practically a healthy woman.I sweat only on my face (it runs at times) and neck during summers and on the side of my nose in winters. My forehead is always very cold and clammy and sometimes my feet are also very cold even in dead heat of summers. I don’t sweat in any other part of my body. There is no sweat in my hair, especially on the top of my head, that is, in the center of my head. This pattern of sweating started in 2003 when I was 39 year old. Before this happened all of a sudden I used to sweat excessively. I feel even a slight cold in the temperature more intensely than the others around me, which becomes helpful,in fact, while dealing with very hot climate here, but, nonetheless, worries me. Lately, I feel very hot which generally lasts for some moments, but sometimes it may stretch for an hour or so. The body heat becomes uncomfortable. Kindly advise me.

I am 14 boy and ever since I can remember have been sweating horrible from scalp and face. Now it is getting to the point where I don’t even want to be out in public any more.

I have tried everything prescription pills (only made me sweet more) prescription antiperspirants (no help what so ever) and now have a scheduled appointment with a surging for surgery.

I was diagnosed with facial hydrosis when I was 9 and every day is a nightmare I always have to make up excuses for physical education because I would have to go throughout the rest of the day drenched in my own sweet. And in the worst cases, have to fake sick to get out of school on the 90 degree days. It is so bad that with the most minimal effort of anything within 10 minutes I can fill up a 2 liter bottle no joke I tested it.

Trying to live my life like everyone else, without the horrifying embarrassment. And I am sure there are some other teens out there with this same problem and can agree that other people aren’t always so nice when it comes to other people’s faults and appearances.

Thanks any other suggestions would be awesome and very much appreciated.

I’ve read so many things that I can relate to. The main one is this. I am 36, and up until a few years ago I was always sensitive to cold. I would have to wear very big jackets in the winter or else I would shiver and be blue with cold. Then suddenly, this sweating and hot thing starts, It was almost overnight! Suddenly, as soon as I get up and start getting dressed in the morning, even in the dead of winter, I start to sweat on my face, head, neck. I used to sweat on my hands and my feet, strangely this seems to have suddenly migrated to the most obvious parts of my body, and nothing will stop it! I have tried everything, and I really mean everything, except surgery. Sometimes I will sweat so bad that it runs into my eyes and makes them sting! People look at me like I am insane, or on drugs, but I am just sweating! It is so strange to go from one extreme, where I can’t bear the cold, to the other, where I need a fan on my face in even the coldest weather! Surely in this day and age there must be an explanation for this reversal in temperature tolerances, so many people suffer from the same thing! I have noticed that the sweating starts when my brain starts to wake up. If I am very sleepy or tired, no sweats, as soon as I start to think, there I go, like a waterfall!! Now I have to go for interviews to get another job, and I am more afraid of sweating than I am of being asked questions that I can’t answer! This is a terrible thing to suffer from. Right now, it is cold, but there is sweat running down my nose, my forehead, my neck. If I drink alcohol, at first I sweat even more, but if I drink more, I stop. I think it is related to adrenalin or something. There must be someone who knows what this is??!

Has any one else here started sweating after taking a prescription medication? My hyperhidrosis began when I was given Duragesic Patches to wear for chronic pain in 2001. I also sweat badly on my chest & back. & arms & legs, even hands & feet, What is weird is that my armpits stay bone dry all the time!! LOL.. Ironic isnt it?

I would have surgery if it was more promising but it sounds risky. I would settle for just my head & face to be dry. Im going to see a Dr for this. Facial HH- I could relate to all of these stories. I at one point had the most embarrassing facial sweating problem you’ll ever know. I became depressed and avoided any contact with people to the best of my ability. Today, though, I’m glad to say that at the age of 22, after suffering from facial HH for more than 8 years, I have found a solution that has saved my life.

I feel like I am reborn now at the age of 22 and can finally do things like normal people. After trying so many things and going through a deep personal depression, I came across a product called Odaban. Reluctant to try it, I ordered it anyway. I applied it on my face and scalp, neck, etc. The next day my problem was solved.

Since that day (4 months ago) I have shockingly not had one embarrassing moment of facial sweating in front of others. My mind was in a state of shock when I first began not sweating. I want every person who has suffered the depression, embarrassment and despair of having facial hyperhyrosis to try this product. I tear with joy when i think of how lucky i am to have found this.

I wish i can share my story with every person who has had this problem. I am slowly but surely recovering from the psychological effect this had on my self esteem and social life. I am 22 and i can finally go out with friends, go to a job interview, go out to dinner and sit right in front of someone without wanting to run off and cry from how embarrassed i was from sweat dripping down my face. Go to odaban.com. It is a anti perspirant that is safe to use on your face, scalp, etc. BELIEVE ME, i didn’t think it would work either.

I understand where all of you are coming from. I used to sweat profusely from my scalp, entire face, eyebrows, neck, it was a nightmare. I really hope I’ve helped you, and given you hope, where i know its hard to find. Good Luck to all!

When my hair is long I have to carry a clip with me everywhere “ready to pull it up”, and I have never been able to where make-up aside from mascara! Talking about “slight” increases in temperature or a little bit of physical activity… I work in a kitchen!

    Certain Dri worked for me.

My body barely sweats at all but my forehead gushes like I have a garden hose on top of my head. Or it did.

I read about using antiperspirants on your forehead here and a few other places and thought I’d give it a try. Regular antiperspirants did nothing at all. But Certain Dri has completely eliminated all of my forehead sweating. I keep reaching up out of habit to wipe away all the sweat and there’s never anything there anymore. I don’t even sweat when I’m working out at the gym.

The first few days I used it twice a day and then once a day after that before going to bed. I noticed a difference the 1st day and by the 4th or 5th day my sweating was gone.

Certain Dri only costs 5 bucks at Walmart so give it a try and see what happens. It may sting a little bit the first few times you use it but it’s not too bad.

And if Certain Dri doesn’t work for you there’s something called Maxim that you can order on the net that’s supposedly even stronger. But I haven’t tried it.

I´m 31, i live in a tropical country and i suffer from heat all the time, i thought it was hormonal, but i start sweating if i sneeze, walk, crouch to pick up something from the floor, lift anything, laugh too hard, or if i get anxious.

I feel this tremendous heat inside as if i was just stopped running, all day long, my face gets greasy, my hair damp, my shirts get wet on the neck, chest, back and armpits, i had to move to a mountain where is relatively cold for me, and i feel more comfortable now, people around me wears sweaters and scarves, i wear spaghetti straps shirts, shorts or skirts and when i go to the city, the mess starts again as if i was in a sauna.

I´m a singer and this is a huge problem for me because with the spotlights, certain anxiety we all get on strange from time to time, it all makes it worst, people is sure i´m dying on strange, they offer me water, a seat, they fan at me with their hands, people look at me with pity, i simply end up miserable, and i start sweating hours before i get to sing anything, it is very embarrassing and i even got to the point to excusing with people by explaining i suffer from this condition.

I have worked so hard to be a singer, but it all gets ruined the moment i step up on stage and start sweating miserably all over my head, face, neck, it drips!! and if i wipe my face with a small hand towel in public, people look awkwardly at me, i still do wipe my face several times if i have to but in seconds i´m sweating profusely all over again. I cannot do this, is ruining my life! I’ve been thinking about cutting my hair really short again, i even wear a cotton scarf, natural fibers so it will help absorb some of the sweat from my neck and leave me alone but i get more hot in minutes…no use. i splash ice cold water on my face, it works for a few minutes and then it comes back.

The worst is to try and sing arias all dressed up in a nice evening gown, perfect hair and make up and suddenly all this sweat drips down from my face and my make up even water proof, runs down, my face gets red, the sweat soaks down and starts wetting my gown….this is too much….i cannot take it any more. i will have to stop singing in public because this is just way too ridiculous. Combined with vittiligo which is just enough to stand and try to act as if my skin is not all patched with tan and white-like caramel ice cream skin, i have to suffer from horrible pain from congenital displasia and hyperhidrosis. no way. This is just too much.

I’m newly in love with a guy who happens to have severe facial sweating. To learn more about this condition, I’ve had the opportunity to read websites and everyone’s posts here to begin to understand what it’s like for those who suffer from hyperhidrosis. I can’t imagine the heart ache and embarassment.

When my new love and I first met, he was perspiring profusely and explained that sometimes he breaks out in these sweats. Truthfully and shamefully, I have to admit I was unsettled by all the dampness until I really got to know him well as a person.

I will tell ‘him’ that I’ve been reading about hyperthidrosis and people’s postings about their experiences with hyperthidrosis. I hope this will be the opportunity for us to talk about it, get the elephant out of the room, and continue our romance.

    Wish me luck!

Does anyone out there find themselves getting upset at someone who has a perfectly dry face and hair while you are sitting in a puddle?

I am anxious to try some suggestions on here. All those who have this problem but have Central A/C, thank your lucky stars!! ( and pray for me, LOL!!)

    Best wishes and dry foreheads,

Wow! I am amazed to see how many other people have this problem. I have recently had this problem more and more. Lately, it seems like the sweating from my face and scalp are neverending.

I wake up with my hair completely saturated with sweat…and I have fairly long hair. When other people are ‘a little warm’, I have sweat just dripping from my scalp and face. It is extremely embarrassing. I have people handing me napkins or paper towels because it’s so obvious. My 4 yr. old asks me what’s wrong with me. That’s sad!

I don’t know what to do, but after a very wet 4th of July, I need to find a solution.

I’ve read nearly all the comments posted here.

Surely some medical person is in charge of this web site.

Where is that person. I’ve seen only one message from the “admin.”

We all seem to have the same problem and continually ask for a solution/cure/help.

    Admin, are you listening????

    Help us please!!

    Hi Christine,

I am listening, but I am not a doctor and there is no medical person running this site – if there was, you would likely be told how wonderful ETS is and why you should have it – which is NOT the case.

I can only offer a place where others that have the same problem can share their experiences and what may have worked for them. To date, there is no magic cure, but explaining how this problem (nightmare for many) has impacted your life can do wonders emotionally.

For many, they are just discovering that they are not alone; if you read the comments, you’ll see how important this is.

Believe me, if I find a cure that works, this is the first place I’ll post it!

    Best regards,

    Jim

I’m a 24 yr old man. I’ve had hyperhidrosis since i was 11 or 12, back then it was just an armpit issue, since i was 17 until now it has developed into a HEAD TO TOE issue, getting worse each year. I’ve tryed prescription drugs, psychologist sessions, special deodorants etc… nothing helps. I hate to leave the house, sitting on a bus or train is an unbareable experience, being trapped in there while my clothes become saturated and i vainly wipe my forehead for the 20th time. I cant socialise or work, which is unfair because i have the ability to do both but hyperhidrosis stops me. I’ve given up now and am gona claim incapacity benefit. Hyperhidrosis has ruined my life. I’m aware this post offers no help to anybody, it is simply my story, i just cant believe a persons body can destroy someones mind like this, I give up

  126. Gudde said:

I believe I have found a way to stop sweating which doesn’t include drugs or surgeries. But it requires some work and is not for people that easily gives up.

First of all It is really sad to read all the stories about people that have got their life ruined because of excessive sweating. I am now 31 years and have also had similar problems especially with sweaty armpits. The last couple of years it got worse and I started to also have facial sweating. Since I work as a sales man I have to meet a lot of new people and new situation every day which makes the problem even worse. 6 months ago I was ready to give up, quit my job and just stay out of as many social situations as possible. But when thinking about my 4 and 2 year old kids I could not do it…..I wanted to be part of their lives and not be the one that sits home.

I started to read a lot about anxiety, sweating, phobias etc and found that there was a relationship between all of that. It is all in your mind! You have a “train” of thoughts stored in you brain that gets triggered and then you start behave in a certain way. If a friend one day told you that you were a big idiot – how would you react? If I told you the same thing here in this post, would that be a difference? Of course it would. You get a different reaction because you have a thoughts, experience, feelings etc that are stored in your brain associated to places, people and situations.

I believe the same thing is valid for sweating. In example I have a problem that I sweat every time I meet a particular neighbor. Meeting the other neighbor living next by him is not a problem at all. The key stop sweating is to break the “sweat thoughts”.

I could have written a lot more about this I just wanted to tell you that there is a way out of this. My comments above is probably not enough for you to fully understand the concept but as a start I would recommend that you read more about your mind’s ability to control the body.

Good luck and remember don’t try to treat the symptom, treat the cause.

NASA trains their astronauts to control body functions like sweating and increased heart rate to reduce motion sickness. It works for them and I’m hoping it can work for us. It’s all about using your mind and biofeedback training.

Dr. Patricia S. Cowings, a research psychologist at NASA’s Ames Research Center and colleague Dr. William B. Toscano have a developed a six hour program. She stated on msnbc that:

“We don’t teach relaxation,” says Cowings, “we teach control. It improves with practice, like any other skill.”

I’m just posting this so those of you interested have a starting point for research!

  128. Vee said:

Thanx for the help Jim and Gudde. Its all about controlling our minds. If all of us try to avoid these negative thoughts let it be any thoughts about sweating, failure, disease, just try and replace those thoughts and say it inside your mind “I am well All is well” It will take a lot of practice but if u believe u will surely get rid of these problems.

After reading everyone’s stories here, I realize what my problem has been! Since I was 13 I’ve always sweated under the armpits profusely. It was so embarrassing, never being able to wear certain fabrics, always making sure I had a sweater or something to hid the wetness – and how humiliating it was to have to wear a pink taffeta bridesmaid’s dress one year – the huge wet stains under my arms are in all the photos. I’m 53 now, but when I started going through peri-menopause, the underarm sweating sort of just tapered off. At the same time, I began getting pretty bad hot flashes, but I got on hormone replacements and that went away for a few years. Now over the past couple of years I’ve developed severe facial hyperhidrosis that affects my scalp, forehead, face, neck, and upper back. It starts when I first get out of bed, so showering, dressing and putting makeup on are tortuous activities. I have to stand in front of fans the whole time, and even that doesn’t stop the sweating. When I do any more than run in and out of a store, the sweating builds quickly to the point where I’m absolutely dripping from my ears, chin, and nose, and I look like I’ve dunked my head in a bucket of water. One day I actually had to buy a cheap t-shirt before I even left the store – something I could change into before I left! Walking the dog outside for 5 minutes will also bring it on. I’ve read that a 0.5% topical solution of glycopyrrolate (Robinul) is very effective, so I will be visiting my doctor asap to discuss this.

Its nice to read I’m not alone. If I can provide any input its to use Drysol for the underarms, it really does work well. I wish I had a answer for the face; all it takes is a simple “hi” from someone and I feel that warm rush come over and know my face has turned red and the sweat beads have started. Makes you feel like people are staring and within seconds I’ve lost complete control, like a faucet was turned on.

Listen up everybody : oxybutynin. i started taking it one week ago and after 11 years of misery from sweating from my neck face and scalp, i dont sweat like that anymore. the best thing is that i can cool off faster after being outside, i can sit outside of a restaurant, go to the pool, its amazing. side efects are dry mouth, some visual disturbances, nothing major. so talk to your drs and ask for it. good luck. oxybutynin costs $4.00 at walmart

i attribute my sweating to the fact that my people are from Sweden. So when it is 10 below I am fine. In summer it is the humidity. I am real sensitive to humidity and just wipe my face a lot and always have a hand fan to cool myeself off.

I tried homeopathic medication and its helping me…..I have severe face and back sweating problem…..but after taking homeopathic treatment everything is changing. I seen big changes in my sweating problem. Homeopathic works slowly, so it took me 6 weeks to see any change in my health. I know how big this problem is, and I want everyone should be cured and live sweat free.

People who don’t know about homeopathic read below:

    Why Homeopathy?

    No side effects.
It cures a disease, rather than merely suppressing its symptoms.
It uses only natural substances in minute doses.
It improves the body’s resistance and immunity.
    It ensures long-term benefits.
No complicated procedures for taking the medicines.
No bitter pills or painful injections.
It does away with unnecessary surgery.
    It is cost effective.

I am almost to tears, reading these stories so familiar to my own. Its good and refreshing to know that I am not alone.

I am a 32 year old 6’3″ tall black man and my face sweats PROFUSELY. i wont say thay my hyperhydrosis has ruined my life however it has surely altered it because I have to factor it in with whatever I decide to do. I dont like social situations anymore. A few months ago my cousin asked me to be in her wedding and I was horrified. I couldnt say no(well I could but I didnt). Luckily for me as one of the an ushers I was able go out into the hall in between walking people down the isle so that I can wipe my whole head off. Being bald doesnt help my situation at all because the whole thing gets drenched. I dont recall always having it however in recent years is has caused me to sink into a mild depression. I have turned into somewhat of a hermit. Whats interesting is I am not a shy person. I love people. I dont sweat because i am nervous, I get nervous because I sweat! I wonder how different my life would be if I didnt have this issue. Its hard for me to approch women, even when they are giving me the ” come and talk to me” sign. I have been in conversation with georgeous women and I would turn and run away(not literally) when it starts(SOOO EMBARASSING). People say ” your sweating”. NO SH** like I dont know. I have had some sucess with ODABAN however like an earlier person posted it HURTS! I guess there are worst things that can happen like, I could go bald…. Oh wait, Nevermind

Thanks everybody for sharing. I feel better knowing that i am not alone. :)

I’m glad we’re all not alone in this. Honestly, anyone who reads my post and who sweats alot, use Certain Dri, especially for facial sweating! It’ll clear it right up-I PROMISE! It’s seriously been a godsend for me.

I’m 21 years old, I started using certain dri on my underarms when I was about 18, then about a year ago, I was so sick and tired of my face sweating so damn much that I wondered if certain dri would work on it. So, I put it on my forehead, temples, upperlip, undereye-cheek areas right before I went to be one night and the next day. It did kind of tingle a bit, but it was worth it. I didn’t sweat on my face at all! I didn’t need to use it again for about a week or so, it kept my sweat glands under control for that long. It was awesome.

Sweating was an especially huge problem when I went to parties and concerts. There were always cute guys everywhere and I felt so self conscious around them because of my sweaty face! People would sometimes ask me if I needed water because I guess to them I looked like I was overheating or something, it was so ridiculous and humiliating! I could never wear bangs because my forehead got so sweaty from them and made them look all gross and wet, my makeup used to never last that long because once i started sweating, I’d then start wiping my face and wipe it all off and it just sucked. It’s so nice not having to worry about that anymore. Now I can go to parties and wear my cute bangs on my forehead, feel confident that my makeup looks great and not have to worry that I look like a sweaty mess and be wanting to check the mirror every 10 minutes. Certain Dri is the bomb! lol

    Moderator’s Note:

It has been mentioned Certain Dri should only be applied to approved areas, so make sure you read the instructions. Certain Dri may have worked for this visitor, but as you can see from previous comments, it does not work for everyone.

I do my best to screen comments made by companies and doctors trying to push their product or service under the guise of someone experiencing excessive sweating but there is no way to spot them all – use caution and never rely on just one comment.

I think I heard a chorus of angels singing when I found these posts! I have had excessive scalp/face sweating since I was a teenager. It has intensified with every passing year, and I would say for the last 10 years (I am now 41) it has forced me to altar my life significantly.

I was relieved and saddened to see how many people this condition affects. It was also very discouraging that most of us are aware of WHAT we have, but no one seems to know how to fix it. My family is used to it, they have chalked it up to, “I sweat a lot.” My new problem is I have just been accepted into Nursing School, and instead of worrying about the insurmountable amount of homework, my #1 fear is SWEATING during clinicals! How can I treat a patient when I look like I’m on the verge of a medical condition myself, with a wet head a sweat pouring down my face?

I have tried Certain Dri on my face and scalp at night, but found that I get cempensatory sweating from my neck, chest and armpits! ANYTHING makes me sweat, washing dishes, vacuuming, standing for long periods of time, even shopping in a 65′ air conditioned store, I end up leaving with wet hair. I took my kids to the zoo and was ASHAMED because although it was a hot day, my hair was soaking wet. A kid actually said to me, “hey where did you get to go swimming?”…Seriously?

While reading this site, I immediately went and ordered ODABAN. I am seriously praying that it works. There must be something in the food, water, atmosphere, whatever, that is affecting this many people. I am glad to know you are all out there, I am hoping Odaban works, as I could go the rest of my life without hearing someone ask, “Are you ok? Were you running?” It will also to be nice to leave the house without checking my purse to make sure I have my battery operated fan with me. It’s ridiculous we have to live this way, isn’t it?

I’ll get back with you in a couple of weeks and let you know if the product works for me.

Feel free to share your experience or ask questions.
