Its nice to read I'm not alone. If I can provide any input its to use Drysol for the underarms, it really does work well. I wish I had a answer for the face; all it takes is a simple "hi" from someone and I feel that warm rush come over and know my face has turned red and the sweat beads have started. Makes you feel like people are staring and within seconds I've lost complete control, like a faucet was turned on.

After reading everyone's stories here, I realize what my problem has been! Since I was 13 I've always sweated under the armpits profusely. It was so embarrassing, never being able to wear certain fabrics, always making sure I had a sweater or something to hid the wetness - and how humiliating it was to have to wear a pink taffeta bridesmaid's dress one year - the huge wet stains under my arms are in all the photos. I'm 53 now, but when I started going through peri-menopause, the underarm sweating sort of just tapered off. At the same time, I began getting pretty bad hot flashes, but I got on hormone replacements and that went away for a few years. Now over the past couple of years I've developed severe facial hyperhidrosis that affects my scalp, forehead, face, neck, and upper back. It starts when I first get out of bed, so showering, dressing and putting makeup on are tortuous activities. I have to stand in front of fans the whole time, and even that doesn't stop the sweating. When I do any more than run in and out of a store, the sweating builds quickly to the point where I'm absolutely dripping from my ears, chin, and nose, and I look like I've dunked my head in a bucket of water. One day I actually had to buy a cheap t-shirt before I even left the store - something I could change into before I left! Walking the dog outside for 5 minutes will also bring it on. I've read that a 0.5% topical solution of glycopyrrolate (Robinul) is very effective, so I will be visiting my doctor asap to discuss this.

Thanx for the help Jim and Gudde. Its all about controlling our minds. If all of us try to avoid these negative thoughts let it be any thoughts about sweating, failure, disease, just try and replace those thoughts and say it inside your mind "I am well All is well" It will take a lot of practice but if u believe u will surely get rid of these problems.

NASA trains their astronauts to control body functions like sweating and increased heart rate to reduce motion sickness. It works for them and I'm hoping it can work for us. It's all about using your mind and biofeedback training.

Dr. Patricia S. Cowings, a research psychologist at NASA's Ames Research Center and colleague Dr. William B. Toscano have a developed a six hour program. She stated on msnbc that:

<blockquote>"We don't teach relaxation," says Cowings, "we teach control. It improves with practice, like any other skill."</blockquote>

I'm just posting this so those of you interested have a starting point for research!

I believe I have found a way to stop sweating which doesn't include drugs or surgeries. But it requires some work and is not for people that easily gives up.

First of all It is really sad to read all the stories about people that have got their life ruined because of excessive sweating. I am now 31 years and have also had similar problems especially with sweaty armpits. The last couple of years it got worse and I started to also have facial sweating. Since I work as a sales man I have to meet a lot of new people and new situation every day which makes the problem even worse. 6 months ago I was ready to give up, quit my job and just stay out of as many social situations as possible. But when thinking about my 4 and 2 year old kids I could not do it.....I wanted to be part of their lives and not be the one that sits home.

I started to read a lot about anxiety, sweating, phobias etc and found that there was a relationship between all of that. It is all in your mind! You have a "train" of thoughts stored in you brain that gets triggered and then you start behave in a certain way. If a friend one day told you that you were a big idiot - how would you react? If I told you the same thing here in this post, would that be a difference? Of course it would. You get a different reaction because you have a thoughts, experience, feelings etc that are stored in your brain associated to places, people and situations.

I believe the same thing is valid for sweating. In example I have a problem that I sweat every time I meet a particular neighbor. Meeting the other neighbor living next by him is not a problem at all. The key stop sweating is to break the "sweat thoughts".

I could have written a lot more about this I just wanted to tell you that there is a way out of this. My comments above is probably not enough for you to fully understand the concept but as a start I would recommend that you read more about your mind's ability to control the body.

Good luck and remember don't try to treat the symptom, treat the cause.

I'm a 24 yr old man. I've had hyperhidrosis since i was 11 or 12, back then it was just an armpit issue, since i was 17 until now it has developed into a HEAD TO TOE issue, getting worse each year. I've tryed prescription drugs, psychologist sessions, special deodorants etc... nothing helps. I hate to leave the house, sitting on a bus or train is an unbareable experience, being trapped in there while my clothes become saturated and i vainly wipe my forehead for the 20th time. I cant socialise or work, which is unfair because i have the ability to do both but hyperhidrosis stops me. I've given up now and am gona claim incapacity benefit. Hyperhidrosis has ruined my life. I'm aware this post offers no help to anybody, it is simply my story, i just cant believe a persons body can destroy someones mind like this, I give up

Hi Christine,

I am listening, but I am not a doctor and there is no medical person running this site - if there was, you would likely be told how wonderful ETS is and why you should have it - which is NOT the case.

I can only offer a place where others that have the same problem can share their experiences and what may have worked for them. To date, there is no magic cure, but explaining how this problem (nightmare for many) has impacted your life can do wonders emotionally.

For many, they are just discovering that they are not alone; if you read the comments, you'll see how important this is.

Believe me, if I find a cure that works, this is the first place I'll post it!

Best regards,

Jim

I've read nearly all the comments posted here.

Surely some medical person is in charge of this web site.

Where is that person. I've seen only one message from the "admin."

We all seem to have the same problem and continually ask for a solution/cure/help.

Admin, are you listening????

Help us please!!
