Hyperhydrosis Treatment
Hyperhydrosis is something better known as excessive sweating and is a common problem. Sweating is controlled by a portion of our nervous system in the pores of our skin and in approximately 1% of the population there is an excessive control and excessive sweating, Hyperhydrosis, occurs. The locations of Hyperhydrosis include the feet, hands, armpits, main body trunk and the face.
The primary occurrence of Hyperhydrosis starts in childhood or adolescence and continues throughout life. There has been discussion that psychiatric conditions can promote the occurrence of Hyperhydrosis but this is very rare and it is more probable that it is the condition that causes the conditions to be induced in the person. Causes of Hyperhydrosis can include Hyperthyroidism or as part of similar endocrine diseases, Endocrine treatment for prostatic cancer or other types of malignant disease, severe psychiatric disorders, Obesity and Menopause. This is known as secondary Hyperhydrosis.
Many individuals suffer from Hyperhydrosis in many areas of the body. Sweating can appear suddenly or manifest itself more continuously and can be elicited by high outside temperatures or emotional stress, or appears without any obvious reason. Generally, it worsens during the warm season and gets better during winter similar to common sweating amongst people. Arguably the most embarrassing location for Hyperhydrosis is in the palms of the hands which are also very socially disturbing. However problems such has halos of salt in the cloth recently in the armpit region is also extremely embarrassing. Hyperhydrosis in the face can be the most aggravating of the areas subject to Hyperhydrosis as citizens may judge the person to be of a nervous or unstable condition.
Treatment of Hyperhydrosis is varied. The most obvious is the use of antiperspirants which are a common solution to excessive sweat amongst people without the condition of Hyperhydrosis. Iontophoresis can be tried if antiperspirants have not lead to the desired result. This method consists in applying an electric current to the palms or soles immersed in an electrolyte solution. The procedure has to be repeated regularly with several sessions a week then decreasing as treatment continues to one session every 1 or 2 weeks. There are no specific drugs that could be used for the condition of Hyperhydrosis but psychotropic drugs have showed to decrease the effects of Hyperhydrosis. However, this usually takes a long time to occur and the side affects are extensive and occur far before any results can be seen.
Psychological help can only help the person to the live with the condition and merely to aid those who are troubled by the condition. Alternative medicine has almost no effect from experiences such as acupuncture or massages. The use of botulinum however has shown some significant progression in combating the condition of Hyperhydrosis. Initial reports have been published regarding the use of botulinum toxin in Hyperhydrosis. Some drawbacks are the costs of this treatment which has to be repeated at regular intervals and the side-effects but these appear to be negligible.
Hyperhydrosis is a common misspelling for hyperhidrosis

Although I have never been officially diagnosed, I have had HH since childhood.
I suffer from auxillary, palmer, and foot sweating. Auxillary is the biggest problem at work. The wet places under my arms can actually meet in the middle of my chest and look like a vest on my work shirts. It is awful, and may cause me to quit my job from embarrassment.
I have a question –
I have what I consider an extreme desire to put salt on almost everything I eat, including toast! My question is – do I need more salt because of HH? or am I aggravating the HH because of my salt intake?
Thank you for your time,
Patty
Hi Patty,
Catch 22, too much salt and you have a problem, but excessive sweating depletes your supply plus potassium and citrates. A mixture of 1/4 teaspoon seasalt, juice from half a lime, tablespoon of tomato paste in a glass of water is said to do the trick.
Have you ever tried a sage tea treatment? It’s all natural and many claim it works for them.
Fill a large mixing bowl, warm water and sage tea bags (you can get these at your local grocery store) and let stand until the tea begins to dissolve. Once it’s ready, place your hands in the mixture for 10 to 20 minutes. This should be performed daily for about a week. Make sure to wash hands with soap when the process is completed.
The mixture is said to cause contraction of body tissues and canals to help with excessive sweating. Note: before you try anything, consult with your doctor first.
Thanks for the info Jim. I have dry sage sprigs for smugging, I’m gonna try that tea bath tonight.
I’ve used DRYSOL (prescription), with minor side effects, but would like a more natural treatment.
By the way …for others looking for treatment:
DRYSOL is a roll-on / dabber. Ask your doctor about it.
I am from jamaica, I’m at college now and i dont know if i’m gonna survive because of this condition. i sweat everywhere all the time, i need help PLEASE.
If anyone can help me please write back.
Hi I’m a student from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. I’m 16 and like Patty I’ve never been officially diagnosed with HH but I know I have it. I suffer with palmar, plantar and axillary HH. However, my major concern is the palmar HH.
It’s so embarrassing shaking hands with someone and because I know have to, I try not to think about it but in doing so, my sweating only increases! I have palmar HH so bad that anytime I’m writing in school I have to write with a rag over my page to prevent my entire page from becoming soaked in sweat and ripping!
My plantar HH is also equally bad resulting in me LITERALLY sliding across the floor and leaving huge puddles of sweat on the floor during my karate practice (which I have to do bare footed!). It’s so embarrassing when we have to do pair work in karate class because no one like to hold my feet for stretching exercises and I feel like sinking into the ground!
HELP!!! *sobbing*
I have had severe HH since I was born. I went to doctors about it and they tried a bunch of different things. I hated DRYSOL. I hated the electro…something-or-other treatment they put me through where I put my hands/feet in a tub of water and had to do that for 20 minutes, etc. a day – which is about 45 minutes of my time a day that I can’t get back, not to mention I can’t exactly multi-task while doing this. Nothing seemed to work. I wanted surgery, but was afraid it would affect muscles I used for piano and photography.
I DID FIND SOMETHING THAT HELPS!
The name of it is Robinul. I take it every day and it works WONDERS! Seriously – the only side effect is that if I take too much of it, my mouth gets extremely dry, but eventually, you find the right dose, and I haven’t had ANY excessive sweating AT ALL since I started taking it over 6 years ago. The only time I do sweat excessively is if I run out of my prescription and have not taken it for a few days. So…it is a forever treatment, but beyond that, it works GREAT!
Hope this helps!
Karen
NOTE: Robinul is Glycopyrrolate, Wikipedia has this warning:
Do you know why everytime I have to go out I do my makeup and when i’m outside or inside at what ever the event my face starts sweating like crazy and my makeup get so bad?
Why do you think this happens and what can I do?
Hello, I’m Edrian and I’ve been suffering from hyperhidrosis for a while now; I’m 17 years old and from the Philippines.
Does anyone know if an easy way to cure this sweating nightmare ????
I have always had sweaty palms, but my hyperhidrosis worsened significantly when I turned 20. It’s not as severe as some of these other cases seem to be, but it is still very embarrassing!
I cannot wear khaki pants for fear that i will sweat through them. this is actually where i sweat the most and especially problematic given the fact that my job requires a very strict dress code. i use drysol, but it is only effective for my underarms. Does anyone have any advice?
I have been sweating for years– I am currently 49 years old. I am just known as the terrible “sweating machine”. I waitress part time and it is so embarrassing because — especially in the summer and when we are busy — my face is dripping, the cotton lime green shirt is soaked, and my hair is also soaked — just as if I was caught out in the rain.
I have noticed that it is getting worse — not sure if it is because I am getting closer to the menopausal years. I would love to know if there is any help for this. It is not just the underarms — it my total body.
I too have HH- hands, feet, armpits. I also take Robinul 2mg- I try not to take it everyday, but alternate days or take it if I have somewhere special to go. I think the medication is actually for ulcers and this is a side effect.
I have sweating problem in palm and feet . Summer they sweat to much . May you help me please? Thank you!
hi people…if anyone is from the Philippines please leave a comment so we can talk w/ each other and start communicating. I’m 22, female and i have palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis. I just need to talk to someone who has my condition too…thanks!
I have a really , really bad problem with excessive sweating, especially from the head! My hands and feet are also affected, but not as bad as my head. (trust me it is still severe) Every time I do something I just get soaked and wet from the excessive sweating.
For example, the other day I had to change the car battery from my truck. My son and wife were with me, standing and helping in with what they could. The task involved was to remove a total of 4; 10mm nuts from the terminal post clamps and holding straps. Lift the battery out and replace it with the new one. Well let me tell you something. That task also involved a full change of clothes due to the drenching that I had accumulated on the clothing I was wearing. I had to change my shirt, socks and sneakers.
The sweat was dripping from the surgical type gloves I was wearing to prevent my hands from getting greasy.
PLEASE does anyone have a suggestion????? I need help its been too many years with this embarrassing issue.
I really need help. I come from the Philippines specifically in Mindanao. I have severe palmar and plantar hyperhydosis. I’m already a teacher but I’m not feeling good. It’s a big big hindrance on my part to work on many things because of this problem. It’s so embarrassing that people around me couldn’t understand. I do not want surgery I want to fine an easy way to cure this, but how? God I always hope everyday that I can fine answer to this problem. It seems a curse on my part to live because of this. Who can help me? I need it so badly!

Like some of you I haven’t been officially diagnosed w/ HH but I know I have it? because of the profuse sweating I go through!!! From the head, trunk, facial and thighs it’s driving me Crazy!!!!! I’m very interested in the salt theory one of you mentioned here earlier as I myself am a SALT FREAK! I put salt on almost everything as well. But I seem to crave it desperately and I don’t know why??? Any responses would be greatly appreciated!.
I have HH head to toe. By far, the most embarrassing portion of my body affected is the “ass sweat”. My condition is ridiculously severe and I had surgery in Beverly Hills about 5 years ago, but it was marginally successful (and only targeted armpits). Prescription deodorant does not have any effect on me besides causing painful rashes. I’m 24 and I am who I am, if someone does not like me b/c I sweat too much then screw them. Life is too short to be controlled by this condition and I have too many goals I am trying to achieve. Good luck to all and hang in there, there are more of us than you think.
I’m in high school, and I sweat a lot. Especially my arm pits, hands and feet. I’m always so nervous about someone finding out and making a big deal that it gets worse! I’ve tried Drysol, and I hated it. It causes rashes on my skin and I still sweat through it. I want to try some kind of medication that has few adverse affects. Any suggestions?
Hi, I’m from the Philippines, and I also have severe Facial Hyperhidrosis. Just like anybody else who has this condition i experienced excessive sweating in my entire head up to my chest area. and i often times get soak when this happens.
My hair gets soaked in sweat that i looked like i had taken a shower. I know a lot of us sufferers of this condition also has emotional, psychological and sociological problems. I sometimes don’t wanna go out in the crowd just because I’m afraid that I might sweat out too much and this really embarrass me a lot. I feel like i wanna be alone a lot of times.
This condition has changed my lifestyle, attitude and perspective in life. just sharing my problems with you sufferers of hyperhidrosis.
Hi,
I suffer from plantar hyperhidrosis on the feet, what’s worse it gives a bad odor smell, even if i wear boots it comes out it smells like I passed gas; I have low self esteem and confidence because of this. I tried driclor, iontherpheresis, botox, washing my feet with detol, nothing works, can anyone suggest something else as I have no life I’m only 18. I didn’t go to a university because of PH as throughout my school life and college life I’ve been bullied because of the smell.
As for the surgery, the doctor wont do it as he said that it would not work!
Hi, I am from Kenya and suffering from Hyperhidrosis. Do you guys think we have any cures/treatment here in Africa?
I have been looking into treatment of HH because I am so tired of my sweaty feet and hands. I found a doctor in San Antonio, TX who claims he is a HH national expert and has developed outpatient surgical procedures for this. You can find him on the internet and I just wanted to share this info with you. His credentials look impressive but I have not yet met with him but will do soon; when I do, I’ll let you know how it turned out.
Hi, I’m Marvin from the Philippines and also suffer from HH, please, does anyone know of a treatment that I can do naturally? I can not afford to visit a regular doctor.
Hi, I’m Dave from Philippines… I suffered hyperhydrosis since adolescent when i had my surgery ORIF at my forearm….since then i begin sweating vigorously….i tried not to think of it but it gets worsen…so i decided to sick for medical help…i have my laboratory for T3 and T4 to test if i have hyperthyroidism problem but the result is just normal….but i was diagnosed with HH from my family doctor….as a result i was refer to a dermatologist…there i tried aluminum chloride, drysol, lonthophresis but none of this works… my dermatologist refer me to a internist for an anticholinergic treatment…..i have to take first the drug and see the result after….
i found out that i have hyperhydrosis just a few days ago..i was really bothered with this condition of excessive sweating…i know a few people who also have the same condition as mine…it’s really embarrasing to have this sickness…i hate it..they call me there “wet hand friend”….please help me anyone….
I’ve had HH since childhood. I suffered a lot, like most cases here, most especially when I started working. I had it worst when I had to use my fingerprints in the biometric system and it wouldn’t work on me because my hands are super sweaty, makes me all the more nervous.
I’ve tried Driclor before but I stopped because it doesn’t seem to be working on me or maybe I am not doing it right. I don’t know. I am 23 now and I just want to get rid of this as soon as possible.
I am from the Philippines, by the way, so if anyone here is from the same country, please let me know. Like, if you know a good doctor who can give the right prescription and advice. I cannot afford expensive surgeries like botox so I’d rather resort to cheap and less painful options.
ANYONE HELP ME, PLEASE
Thanks a lot. I would really appreciate it ^^
